Biographical / Historical
The AFAM Oral History Project began in 2021 in conjunction with the Museum's 60th anniversary celebration, from January 2021 to the end of 2026. The purpose of the Oral History Project is to create a robust and inclusive record of the development and vitality of folk art and self-taught art in the United States and around the world. It will feature a diverse group of artists, collectors, scholars and the close community of the American Folk Art Museum. Most interviews are conducted for and included in exhibitions at the Museum. For example, AFAM's 60th Anniversary exhibition Multitudes featured clips of interviews with Dr. Carolyn Mazloomi, Dr. Henry Glassie, Randall Morris, Shari Cavin, and Jullie Phillips. The Project is led by Regina Carra, Rapaport Archivist, and Valérie Rousseau, Curatorial Chair for Exhibitions and Senior Curator.
