Writings related to Salem Witch Trials, undated
Scope and Contents
This series includes financial and insurance records for Earnest’s home and car, veterinarian information for her dog, and her personal correspondence. There are contracts and correspondence about donations of artwork made by Earnest to the museum. Financial documents, such as copies of checks Earnest wrote to the museum, and tax materials that included Earnest’s Social Security number, have been moved to a box of confidential materials. The majority of correspondence is decoy-related, including letters, photographs and a number of hand-drawn illustrations by Lowell Jackson. There are clippings from a run of the comic strip, Steve Roper , which includes a character who seems to be based on Adele Earnest herself. There are other assorted materials such as a hand-crafted pen, a notebook containing the course notes of classes that Earnest took while attending Wellesley College, and an audio recording of an interview with Earnest and a 16mm film. The 16mm film needs to be placed onto a viewing reel, and the audio reel-to-reel tape is badly damaged.
