Stone of: Stow, Deacon Abner and Mary. 1786, Grafton, MA. Carved by: New, James
Scope and Contents
The collection contains 136 gravestone rubbings, all mounted and ready for hanging. Some of the rubbings are mounted several to a board, and so there is a total of 117 mounted boards. The rubbings were made between 1977 and 1983, and represent gravestones dated 1650 to 1800. The stones are from all across New England, with the great majority being from Connecticut.
There is also a small amount of material related to the exhibitions Three Centuries of Connecticut Folk Art and A Grave Business: New England Gravestone Rubbings including the exhibition catalog and reviews in local newspapers.
